The Vagabond Players
the Western Canadian Premiere of
Passion, possession and sacrifice in the colourful world of the Italian Renaissance!
The future of Leonardo da Vinci hangs in the balance! Who will shape the brilliant mind of Leonardo da Vinci and prevail in the battle for the gifted child: his peasant mother or his rich father? Padre Bartolomeo, a friend of the da Vinci family, finds himself caught between the powerful da Vinci family and Leonardo`s defiant unwed mother, the servant Caterina. In his efforts to mediate the dispute and determine the future of Leonardo, Bartolomeo comes to a new understanding of the nature of forgiveness and love. Jeremy Heynen stars as Padre Bartolomeo and Catlin Corey Franks plays Piero, his headstrong friend whose precipitate actions cause heartache to the women who love him. Darby Steeves shines as Caterina, the loving mother of the young Leonardo, and Elizabeth Drummond is deeply moving as Albiera, Piero’s neglected wife who longs so desperately for a child. The strong cast is completed by Dale Kelly as Antonio, the influential patriarch of the da Vinci family and Kyle Wipp as Piero’s younger brother, Francesco. Directed by Matthew Davenport, this enthralling show is filled with passion, possession, sacrifice, and is set in the colourful and contradictory world of the Italian Renaissance!
