Theatre Rental

The Bernie Legge Theatre seats 135 plus 3 wheelchair spaces and is available for rental by business, professional or nonprofit groups on evenings or during the day.  The lobby has a 100 person-capacity. There is a bar area that can be used for beverages or snacks and a ramp entrance into the lobby for those with mobility issues.

Sorry, no religious or political meetings, speeches, debates or similar.

 

In the case of theatrical or musical performance rental requests, because of our full season, availability on evenings and weekends is limited. It may be possible to make exceptions, depending on the nature of the performances. Weekday presentations can usually be accommodated up to a week before productions, with some limitations. Be aware that, as we use our building year-round, there is almost always a set in various stages of construction on the stage. In some cases, if you need the stage included in the rental, it can be arranged to hide the set in some way, or we can close the reds for your presentation. There is a 4-foot apron, and we can provide a podium. It can also be arranged for the Green Room and Dressing Rooms to be made available as well.

 

The basic standard rate is $125 an hour for use of the Auditorium (with the main drape closed) and Lobby only at a minimum 4-hour rental. This includes set-up and take-down. Any use of our technical equipment will require us to provide a technician at an additional cost of $40 an hour. Overtime rates will apply for the technician and the building. Otherwise, renters must provide their own performance or presentation equipment to be used apart from our installed systems.

 

There is a full rate schedule below with standard and discounted rates for certain qualifying New Westminster or Nonprofit Groups. 

 

All theatre rentals require some of our theatre staff throughout the rental term. The number and level of technical and non-technical staff are determined by Vagabond Players. Associated costs are additional to space rental fees and will be identified on the Rental Agreement. Non-technical staff may also be required to accommodate rental needs for safety, customer enjoyment and presentation needs. Additional staff and related charges are listed below.

 

A club representative (liaison) must be present whenever the renter is in the building, and whenever the building is open to the public.

 

Payment of 50% of booked time plus damage deposit of $500 at time of signing contract, then balance prior to first performance. Renter must have $3,000,000 liability insurance and provide a document of proof.

 

If the concession is provided by the Vagabond Players, we will keep the profits unless other arrangements are made. We have no kitchen or food storage capability. The renter can sell promo items, souvenirs etc., at no extra charge.

 

If requested, Vagabond Players can provide web-based ticketing and box-office services. The renter can use this service (service fees apply) or make their own ticket printing and sales arrangements. If the Vagabond Players system is used, assigned or general seating can be specified; if other ticketing is used, ONLY general seating.

 

If requested, Vagabond Players will put a message about the renter’s show on our social media, and on this website, for 2 weeks prior to the presentation (unless otherwise arranged). The renter is responsible for other advertising and promotion.

 

Vagabond Players are also open to arrangements for a full facility rental for a Summer Production. Different rates would apply and would be negotiable.
