Laughter on the 23rd Floor

Audition Dates & Times:

  • Sunday March 15 - 1pm

  • Tuesday March 17 – 7pm

  • Callbacks March 22 – 1pm 

 

Audition Address: The Bernie Legge Theatre, Queens Park, New Westminster 

 

Production Dates: June  4 - 27, 2020 (performances are Thur-Sat @8pm and Sunday matinees @2pm)

 

Roles:  Available roles: 2 female, 20-45, 7 males 20-50

 

  • Max Prince: Male, 35-49. Bigger-than-life comic actor who is the mega-star of a hugely popular television variety show “The Max Prince Show,” cannot help but dominate a room entirely.

 

  • Lucas Brickman: Male, 20-35. The freshman writer; sensible and sincere. 

  • Milt Fields: Male, 25-45. The flamboyant “gag” man; a joke a minute wholesaler who deals in fast-paced patter.

  • Val Slotsky: Male, 30-45. A senior member of the staff; the most politically aware of all the writers; a Russian immigrant, accent required

  • Brian Doyle: Male, 25-45. Biting sense of humor and bitter outlook on life, smokes, drinks, and coughs a lot.

  • Kenny Franks: Male, 25-37. Considered the “boy genius” of the group but also the most sophisticated of the writers.

  • Ira Stone: Male, 35-43. A hypochondriac comes in late every day with a new ailment.

  • Carol Wyman: Female, 28-40. The only female staff writer. Strong. Independent. Fiery.

  • Helen: Female, 20-30. Max’s secretary, and completely out of her element amongst the writers.

Synopsis: “Laughter…” is Neil Simon’s homage to his days as a writer for Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows,” where he worked alongside Mel Brooks, Carl Reiner, Larry Gelbart, and other zanies of television’s Golden Age. Set in 1953, this Simon play explodes with “colorful” language (“f” bombs), verbal assaults and wicked office pranks.

 

Audition Requirements: 

  • This is an open audition, actors will be seen in order they arrive 

  • This is a cold read - sides will be provided (not from the script)

  • Please bring headshot and resume to the audition
