Other Desert Cities

By Jon Robin Baitz

Directed by Wayne Nolan

When Brooke Wyeth returns home after a six-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt, she announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family’s history—a wound they don’t want reopened. In effect, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it. Set in Palm Springs, this powerful drama of politics, passion and family secrets was a finalist for the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Vagabond Players’ strong ensemble cast features Julia Grace as Brooke, the strong-minded New Yorker daughter who believes one must bring truth into the open no matter what the consequences, and Rob Stover as Trip, her easy-going younger brother. Miles Lavkulich plays Lyman Wyeth, the family patriarch, a Californian ex-actor with political connections, and Nancy Ebert is Polly, his elegant, ‘whip-smart’ wife who is devoted to the preservation of the family. Rounding out the cast is Karen Golden as Silda, the impulsive Bohemian aunt who questions her sister’s conservative values yet relies on her for the fundamentals of life. Vagabond Players is proud to present this intriguing play—a riveting tale full of razor-sharp dialogue, unexpected turns and surprising revelations. Don’t miss this exciting opening to the 2015-2016 Season.
