The Vagabond Players
Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)
By Ann-Marie MacDonald
Directed by Mike Parker
What if Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies were actually comedies? Lovelorn academic, Constance Ledbelly, is convinced that they are. What’s more, she believes she knows the source of the plays. But after devastating disappointments in love and academia, she is transported into the Bard’s world of Othello and Romeo & Juliet, where she finds herself sending his stories in new directions. However, although she saves Desdemona and Juliet from their scripted deaths, their lives shoot off into directions that Constance had never envisioned. With an abundance of twists, fights, seductions and wild surprises, Constance engages in a truly hilarious Elizabethan tale of self-discovery. Every moment is a delicious frolic through time and space.
Directed by Michael Parker, the production stars Karryn Ransom as Constance, and features an impressive lineup of talented performers romping through the various Shakesperean roles: Chris Fofonoff, previously seen in Vagabond Player’s productions of Amadeus and The Winslow Boy; Boris Bilic and Carly June Friesen, who recently played in Alone Together; Kurtis Maguire, who appeared last season in Wait Until Dark; and Rose McNeil and Alex Ross making their Vagabond Players debut. Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) is a multi-award-winning play that has delighted audiences all over the world. A witty and engaging comedy of Shakespearean errors, not to be missed.
